A Restless Land

Shortlisted for the Charcoal Bookclub Publishing Prize & Exhibited in Portugal as part of the

Encontros da Imagem photo festival, given honourable mention in the Photobook Award.

A Restless Land is Tessa's latest published photobook.  Made during the time of ‘lockdown’, there is an undercurrent of unease in the images.

It evokes the restlessness born of isolation during that time.  The tableau style landscapes are interspersed with confined spaces and punctuated with glimpses of night-time scenes expressing the distortion of time that we sensed at that time.  Moments of focus and heightened awareness of details of everyday objects alternate with long slow periods of not-knowing and a real fear of what  the future held.  The viewer is introduced to a landscape of disorientation, images of apparent calm are interspersed with objects caught in a cinematic headlight.

the work is presented as a  lay-flat book, printed on textured Mowhawk eggshell paper.  Every page is folded and layered so that each spread can be seen in its entirety, un-interrupted by stitching or deep centrefolds.  It is 30.5 x 21.5 cm, covered in a laminated wrap- around cover.

This is a limited edition of 75 copies and 5 Artists proofs.
